STORY OF IMELDA WHO DIED IMMEDIATELY AFTER HER FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
In the Year 1331, Imelda Lambertini was an 8-year-old and a Dominican Nun. The custom of the time does not permit her to receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, so she would stay back sitting on the Pew and not receive Holy Communion.
She received the Dominican Habit when she was 10 years old. Although she was so young, but she lead an exemplary life in the activities of religious life.
Imelda was somewhat disturbed by the fact that people received Holy Communion and kept living. She wondered why they did not die of joy.
Because Imelda have not reached the stipulated age for the reception of Holy Communion, she would ask the nuns: "Sister, the lady communed with Jesus and she did not die?" The nuns would respond in fear: what's that, girl, why die? ".
The little nun, Imelda replied: "How will someone receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, and not die of love and so much joy and happiness?"
A Host came out of the Sky and flew through the Chapel, stopping over Imelda's head |
So it happened that in the early morning of May 12, 1333, the eve of the Sunday of the Ascension of the Lord, Imelda was at Holy Mass and she could no longer bear so much desire to receive Communion. She wondered:
"If Jesus had requested the children to come to Him, why can't I receive Communion?"
The priest had already finished giving Holy Communion to the nuns when everyone saw: a host came out of the sky and flew through the chapel and stopping over Imelda's head. The priest, then, understood that it had been time for communion.

Upon receiving the Most Holy Eucharist, she Imelda was placed in deep adoration. After praying for hours, the Mother Superior went and fetch Imelda, saying: "Okay, Sister Imelda, I already adore Jesus enough, we can continue. We are going to the other activities of the convent." Imelda, however, remained motionless.
After the insistence of the Superior, nothing happened. It was then that the Mother lovingly took Imelda and she fell into her arms. Imelda had died in her First Communion. The inquiry of the little great Imelda was fulfilled: How can someone receive Jesus in Holy Communion, and not die of happiness? At the age of 11, Imelda died of affection and happiness for having received Jesus!
The body of Blessed Imelda Lambertini is found incorrupt, in Bologna, Italy. Pope Saint Pius X proclaimed her patron saint of children preparing for First Holy Communion.
