WHY THIS DOG ATTENDS DAILY MASS ON HIS OWN

The worse place to bring a Dog is a Church, where congregants are gathered, not to talk of seeing it attend Holy Mass everyday on it's own. But in the case of Tommy, a 7-year-old German Shepherd, it does attend Holy Mass everyday on it's own.

In the small town of San Donaci, near Brindisi, Italy, Tommy is very well known to Churchgoers, since it attends Mass daily like every other Parishioners. It sits or lay quietly on the floor at the forefront, close to the Sanctuary.

The reason behind Tommy's Church attendance is really heart aching.

Tommy was rescued as a strayed Puppy and adopted by Maria Margherita Lochi, a 57-year-old woman. Maria found Tommy wandering in a field near her home, so she adopted him and took good care of him. The duo, Tommy and Maria then developed a sweet bond, steeped in love, loyalty and friendship.

Maria Lochi passed away, leaving Tommy to himself again but, as a good Dog, Tommy never forgot those good times they both had. Since the last time Tommy saw Maria was in the Church at her funeral, at the sound of the Church bell, he would find his way to the Church, sitting quietly throughout the liturgy, on the ground, between the front Pews and the Sanctuary, hoping to see his good friend and owner again, and he will leave at the end of the Mass.

This story is quite disturbing, as Tommy appears to miss his owner. But there is a happy ending to this story.

Tommy was adopted by the entire Villagers as everyone had pity on him and made it their responsibility to cater for his needs.

Dogs are loyal and humans do not deserve them. Hopefully, Tommy’s broken heart will heal soon, since the whole Village had adopted him as their own.
