WITH TWO TORCHES, OUR LADY SET THE PLACE ON FIRE

Story of the rosary, stories of Mary, stories of Mary, miracles of the rosary

Once upon a time, in the year 1611, on the vigil of Pentecost, an immense crowd of people had gathered at the celebrated shrine of Mary at Montevergine.

While the people were profaning the feast with dances, drunkenness, and immodest acts, a fire suddenly broke out in the hall, and in less than half an hour, the building was reduced to ashes and more than 15,000 persons perished.

Five people who escaped swore that they had seen the Mother of God Herself set fire to the place with two torches.

Therefore, all lovers of Mary, should keep away from such places where illicit acts are heing practiced on Her feasts and, if they are able to do so, should prevent others from going there. Such occasions afford more honour to the devil than they do to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Let those who are devoted to the Blessed Mother visit Her shrines, to be sure, but not as an occasion for merrymaking and sin.
