OUR LADY OF CLERY

Our Lady of Clery Cessales, King Louis XI said he wants to be close to Our Lady even in death so he prepared his own Tomb close to that of Our Lady

FEAST DAY - JULY 11

The Shrine of Our Lady of Clery, at Cessales, four leagues from the city of Orleans, France, dates from the thirteenth century.

It was visited by Philip the Fair, Philip VI and even King Louis XI, who had prepared his own tomb there and was buried there in 1483 according to his wish. This King-Saint wore in his hat, a leaden image of Our Lady of Clery. His devotion to Our Lady was fervent, deep and strong, and to her, he attributed his success. He himself prepared his own Tomb in the Sanctuary, saying he wished to be close to Our Lady, even in death.

Among other heroes interred in Our Lady of Clery was Dunois, a hero of the hundred years war.
